Explore Volcanoes National Park and Akagera National Park also known as the park with the “big five” lies in Eastern Rwanda. It’s characterized by woodland, swamps, low mountains and savannah. The varied terrain shelters wildlife including zebras, giraffes, elephants, rhino, crocodiles, impala and hundreds of bird species such as the rare shoebill stork. In the Southern part of the park, vast lake Rwanyakizinga is home to hippos and crocodiles. The Volcanoes National Park situated in the far northwest it protects the steep slopes of the mountain range which is the home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas and a rich mosaic of montane ecosystems that embrace evergreen and bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath.
